Movie Conventions Blog: Murder Mystery
This movie used a lot of close shots and over the shoulder shots especially when they were talking to the “detectives” of the movie. The close shots were used to show the expression on the character’s face. This allowed for the viewer to determine whether the character looked guilty or innocent. The over the shoulder shot adds the effect of worrisome to the viewer as they are unsure on what is next to come. Theses are both elements that make this movie more of a mystery.
All of the elements added a nice effect to the movie and created a bit more of a mystery aspect. In particular I really enjoyed the acting. The acting gave each character a bit of more personality and made the viewer unable to suspect which one was the murder. The detectives of the movie really made the viewer fell as if they were involved in the investigation. Each of these elements made the movie more enjoyable.
Each element was supposed to give the aspect of mystery but not all of them did. In particular I didn’t enjoy the lighting in the movie. Traditionally the lighting in mystery movies are supposed to be dark, dim, and mysterious. In this movie the light barely changed with mostly natural lighting throughout the movie. I felt as if the lighting could have improved to make the movie even more effective.
