Genre Choice: Coming of Age

I chose this genre because I wanted to film and edit something uplifting. I felt like I could possibly portray a real-life experience of mine. It would be very exciting to write and produce something that could send an important message to many. The other genres were also appealing, but were much more difficult to make considering my low level of expertise. As an example, I consider myself to be fairly funny but writing a comedy film would be so difficult. I am not the creative type, so It would make it even harder to come up with an entire comedic script. As for thriller,  I feel as though the editing would be very difficult. I do not have best of the best editing software nor editing skills. So, editing special effects and such would make the film more thrilling but I don't have the skill set to do it at such a high level. The film wouldn't look good especially since I don't have the costumes or makeup to make the thriller believable. Coming of age is a fair challenge for me to try and produce well. I feel like it also allows room for error and has a lot of flexibility. I feel like our pitch may need some slight tweaking. Right now I feel like our pitch seems too much like a drama/thriller. Like previously stated, I want a challenge but not something that seems close to impossible. I think our pitch is great but it needs to be more oriented on the characters growth. Not the characters traumatic experiences and grueling, harsh parents. The main goal for my film is to show and connect to the teenage audience that has to deal with so much at-home. Whether it is the parents being abusive to kids, drugs, alcohol, or each other. I am excited to go in and make these changes. The primary reason I chose coming of age is because I want to send a message to the audience.
